New Design: Celtic Coin Series – Victory In Chariot

Celtic Victory In Chariot Coin Greeting CardThe fifth design in my “Lost Tokens of the Ancients” Celtic coin series is based on a coin from the lower Danube (Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria) area. It features a woman with a victory wreath, driving a quadriga (a chariot with 4 horses running abreast). The inscription “L IVLI BVURSIO” is thought to be an imitation of theRoman moneyer L. Julius Bursio.

The fanciful way the horses and all of their legs (crazy, crazy legs!) were drawn says a lot about the artist who minted this coin design two thousand years ago!

Like the greeting card shown to the right, the Celtic Victory in Chariot design comes on a wide selection of apparel and gift items! Click here or on any design belowto browse through the entire selection of Celtic Coin Victory Chariot T-shirts and Gifts:

New Design: Celtic Coin Series – Celtic Lion

Celtic Lion Coin Jewelry BoxThe fourth design in my “Lost Tokens of the Ancients” Celtic coin series is based on a coin from Italy! Or, the area that today we know as Italy. The Insubres were a Gaulish tribe in Insubria, in what is now Lombardy, Italy and were the founders of Milan.

The design features a fierce lion image and is dated from about the 3rd Century BC. It’s a simple, but classic design to be impressed on a bit of currency so long ago. I thought the arching back of the lion, and the way they hammered out the main design were particularly cool.  Also reminded me of the lions in the Roman Colosseum, naturally.

The Celtic Lion design comes on our big selection of apparel and gift items – all kinds of tees, and things (that’s a new round jewelry box in the image above, by the way)! Click here or on any design below to browse through the entire selection of Celtic Lion products:

New Design: Celtic Coin Series – Celtic Wreath Rider

The third design in my “Lost Tokens of the Ancients” Celtic coin series is based on a coin of the Celts of Eastern Europe. It features a warrior with a long crest riding a horse, most likely celebrating a victory. 2nd-1st Century BC. (Kranzreiter is German for Wreath Rider.)

When I first saw this coin, I just loved the artistry in the design – so stylized! Never thought of the ancient Celts of being so funky!

I’ve put the Celtic Wreath Rider Horse design in my shop on t-shirts and buttons and all that crazy stuff. Celtic Triskele As Purple Tattoo

Sometimes people will contact me wanting to license one of my designs (or a part of them) for a tattoo, which is pretty cool. And it’s even cooler when they send me a photo of the finished ink! Here you can see my original green design on the left, and the adaptation that Charity had tattooed, in purple. (Image posted with permission.)  Looks awesome, Charity!!

Celtic Coin Series – Celtic “Eye” Design

Abstract Celtic Eye Coin Design Light Blue T-shirtThe second design from the Art of FoxVox Celtic Coin Series is an interestingly abstract design that really caught my eye – the Celtic Eye Coin.  (Too early for eye jokes?)

At least that’s really what it looks like to me, an eye. With a wheel ‘pupil’ and different patterns and shapes for eyelids, eyebrows, etc. Since it was created over two thousand years ago, it could also be expressing some kind of a tribal building and agricultural field layout, or even a sort of crop circle. Or spiral landing spots for interdimensional space craft.  Or not. 😉

In any case, this design is from the Gaulic Treviri tribe who lived in SE Belgium in the 2nd or 1st Century BC.

This lucky Celtic Eye is available on all kinds of products, as in the below sample. Click here or any of these products to browse the entire line…
