Breach of Containment

After doing all of those smaller paintings, I felt like getting a bit crazy with the color and ditching formal er… forms. “Breach of Containment” is an abstract 9″x12″ watercolor on watercolor paper. I’m definitely a color-aholic and love vibrant hues. Maybe I’ll push myself in the future and do more subtly or even darkly toned pieces just to see if I can – I’m picturing my hand shaking as I try NOT to dip into bright cadmium red or ultramarine and go for a subtle sepia tone instead – Riiiiiiiight – no problem! 😉

[You can get this work on cards, journals, and other stuff or as a print too.]

Art Squared Watercolors

I’ve been practicing watercolor painting recently – am still trying to discover my ‘style’, but at least I’m making a lot of colorful messes in the meantime! *grin* All five of the pieces below are originally 4″x4″ (an ‘art squared collectible’ size) watercolor paintings on watercolor paper. Once I get my act together I will be selling the unframed originals (quite affordably) in my Etsy shop, hopefully soon. The one item I have in there is getting lonely!

In the meantime, I have all of them available in my Art of FoxVox Shop on framed tiles, mugs, magnets, cards, etc. and I also have archival prints of various sizes (depending on the piece, all square though) available in my DeviantArt Shop. (The foxvox.org watermark is obviously just for online use and doesn’t appear on the originals, prints, or products.)

Argle Bargle or Fooferall?

There’s a weird emotional fluctuation that goes with creating stuff (art, crafts, whatever) – the highs of everything coming out just as you wanted, and the lows of doubting all previous decisions when what comes out isn’t what you were hoping, including your decision to do art in the first place. Usually when the later happens I try to distance myself from the final piece – put it away – not think about it for a while. Or at least, not look at it for a while. On the plus side, the more you do ANY kind of activity, the more you learn, and the better you get – so even if the goal is blah, the process can still be valuable – a grand rationalization, no? And where do you draw the line between ‘practice’ and ‘public’ art? And when do you draw the line? Probably NOT when you’re busy NOT looking at something. Well… while all that’s going on, might as well keep busy with creating more stuff and keep the cycle going – heh.

Moving into the new century finally!

I’ve been blogging on this page since August of 2000 (egad!) and started with blogger when they had FAR fewer features than they have now. For instance – they had no commenting feature built in, so I’ve been using a friend’s personally coded comments system for a long time. But having recently gotten comment spam that, for some reason, I wasn’t able to edit or delete, I figured it was probably time to switch to doing comments through blogger. So while I was busy digging out the comment code from one of their pre-made templates to add to my OWN template, I figured it was probably also a good time to fix my individual post links (I didn’t even know they were broken – tsk tsk on me.), and add a title field to each post as well. So yay, I’m finally using more of this new fangled technology them young whipper snappers at blogger been adding. *grin* (Unfortunately, most of the old comments are inaccessible to the general public, although I still have the files – I’m sure most of you will get over that rather quickly, if not immediately – heh.)

Also, while I’m blogging about blogging, I’m also going to be mirroring this blog over at myspace now as well as continuing to mirror at livejournal too, so if that’s relevant to you, there you go. Now, if I could only remember to try to download JAVA so I could run that wonderful, but java-based, script I found that will crosspost to a number of different weblog services all at once! It’s a huge download for a crappy dialup connection, so I’ll probably just be manually posting to multiple places for a while – ahhh, well.

Russian Ice Festival

I’ve been to the Ice Festival in Ottawa, Canada, skated the canal, and loved the ice and snow sculptures there. But you MUST check out this page with photos of the Russian Ice Festival! Impressive, amazing, and awe-inspiring are really understatements. And the comment about not being able to slide much with courderoy pants just cracked me up. *grin*
