Checkerboard Watercolor

I guess you’d call this abstract, or maybe a geometrical abstract, or perhaps just art squared? In any case, when I create a watercolor with simple lines like this, it’s even easier to get into the creative flow – it’s just you and the brush, paints, and paper, with no difficult left-brained type decisions to make in the middle of it all. *grin*

Both framed (I used an example frame above to highlight the work) and unframed prints are available – click here for more information. The original is 10″x10″ on Aquarelle Arches hot press 140 lb. watercolor block paper.

Likewise, this painting looks really cool on a framed tile (more sturdy and less expensive than a framed print), or even a mini button – for the entire selection of neat products with this checkerboard, click here.

Tulips and Pearls

Or, an alternate title might be ‘Kristen dabbles in colored pencil and realism’ – but that’s not as catchy. I do love surreal, abstract, and geometrical compositions but sometimes I break it up with some attempts at realism. I went for the ‘formal still life’ feel with this one, which seems to have worked reasonably well.

One thing I had a lot of fun with is that I used a creamy beige/peach colored piece of charcoal paper for the base, which allowed me to finally play with my white colored pencil for the pearls! (Mom always said I was easily amused.)

The image above shows the print with a nice frame, but both framed and unframed prints are available – click here for more information.

If you’d prefer this image on something smaller, like a greeting card, or a rectangular magnet for a refrigerator art gallery, or even a t-shirt, I have those too – click here to check out gifty type things with ‘Tulips and Pearls’.

As always, thanks for looking!

Poker Abstract Watercolor

This is another abstract watercolor I completed recently. It didn’t start off as a poker hand (five card stud, apparently) with poker chips; originally I was just playing with shapes and colors, but one doesn’t argue with the art muse, if one knows what’s good for them – *grin*.

Both framed and unframed prints are available – click here for more information. The original is 14″x10″ on Aquarelle Arches hot press 140 lb. watercolor block paper.

Also, I have stuff (non-prints) available in my shop with this painting/design too, like greeting cards (poker parties?), keepsake boxes to hold your lucky playing cards, t-shirts, etc. – click here to see da stuff.

Watering the Lawn

I’ve got a number of newly completed works of art to share, most of them abstract watercolors, so I figured I’d start with, what else, an abstract watercolor. I called it “Watering the Lawn” because to me it combines abstract drops of water, blades of grass, sunshine, the idea of breezes, etc.

The painting is shown with a gold frame above, but both framed and unframed prints are available – click here for more information. The original is 14″x10″ on Aquarelle Arches hot press 140 lb. watercolor block paper.

Thanks for looking, and stay tuned for more art. 🙂
