More Than A Festival For Pies

We went to a “Pie Festival” a few weeks ago at a local farm with their own farm stand. They did have a great selection of homemade pies – we bought an apple raspberry that was delicious and weighed a TON. But there was also a lot of other things going on. For instance, we got to see some of the attractions, like the World’s Largest Garden Gnome!

That’s John with the gnome to give you a sense of scale. Also, who doesn’t want their photo taken with the world’s largest garden gnome?

We also had a little farm animal petting zoo which included goats, a huge pot bellied pig, and alpacas:

We got to take a tractor-pulled tram/hay ride from the parking area to the festivities and back again too! Autumn has arrived! *grin*

Better Late Than Never – Spring in the Catskills

I have such a backlog of images to post, so I figured I should get this one out of the way before winter started – LOL. This painting is my attempt to capture the amazing thickness of verdant green leafage here in the Catskill Mountains in the spring. I’m not sure that my scan of the acrylic painting got all of the subtle green variations that I put into the original (and the small version certainly doesn’t express the brown of the tree trunks well), but I tried!

The original is 20″x20″ on gallery-wrap canvas. The funny thing is that I have this painting sitting at the top of a tall shelf next to my desk, with a set of Futurama figurines in front of it – it’s like a bizarre version of Dorothy and friends down the yellow brick road – LOL!

(Click the image to see a larger version, or to purchase framed or unframed prints, canvas option too.)

Satellite Leaf Macro Photo

Macro photos of leaves often remind me of closeups of Google Map’s satellite views, especially of suburbs…

The big veins are like freeways or main thoroughfares. I suppose this brings a whole new layer of meaning to the ‘cloverleaf’ interchange of highways – hah! I just crack myself up sometimes. 😉

You can get unframed or framed prints of this photo by clicking an image above or clicking here. Thanks for looking!

Primordial Suns Series

A number of months ago, I created a mixed media piece I called “Primordial Suns”. When another artist friend of mine saw it she told me I should do a series, so I did! Well, a small series of three, but it’s still a series! They are all abstract watercolor paintings with black ink drawings of suns with wavy rays and spirals and other small details…

Primordial Suns I

Primordial Suns II

Primordial Suns III

Each piece was done on 14″x10″ 140 lb. watercolor paper and was a bit time consuming, especially the inked parts. When I was creating the first work, I had an idea that the abstract background represented the formlessness out of which light might have first sprung, thus the suns. Each one has it’s own distinctive feel despite their similarities, like they were the beginnings three different universes. (Yes, I’m a bit philosophical with these – LOL.)

To see larger versions (or buy prints) just click on any of the images to go to its gallery page at imagekind.com. And thanks for looking!

10 Year Anniversary and Celtic Art Prints

As of last month, my weblog here at foxvox.org has been around TEN YEARS! That doesn’t seem possible, it only seems like it’s been a FEW years at most. But I can also remember a time before blogs (before internet too, but not before usenet – heh) when websites all had to be manually updated and created by coding your own html.  I can also remember when most websites (NOT mine – LOL) were done with a white on black animated/twinkling star field background .gif and centered yellow text in Comic Sans font… *shudder*  So yeah, TEN years!  And many, many different designs. Holy HTML, batman!

Speaking of websites, I’ve finally gotten around to creating a website for a domain I bought about a year ago, or more. I created it as an additional way to promote some of my Celtic Art prints, so guess what I called it?  Umm… yeah… Celtic Art Prints … clever, eh?  (It’s the subtle nuances in the name that make it so whimsical!) I also made it an affiliate website so I’m promoting other people’s Celtic Art and Photography as well as mine – the more the merrier, and hopefully that will draw in a slightly wider variety of Celtic and Irish art seekers.  There’s some really great Celtic Art out there, and I hope this site makes it easier for people to find it!

Oh, and have a great weekend everyone!
