I was accosted by calliope hummingbirds this morning! I was watering the garden and three of them came down (two with irridescent ruby throats – those were the males) to fly into the water stream, and chase each other around it as well. I stayed as still as possible and kept a small stream of water spraying from the hose and they played around for a few minutes – they buzzed around like crazy and then took off for the trees. I guess running water is a real treat for them – I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hummingbird drink from one of the bowls we keep out. Guess they like showers more than baths, eh?
