If you’ve wondered why most radio stations sound alike, it’s because Clear Channel and Infinity Broadcasting (VIACOM’s Infinity Broadcasting, also a CBS co.) together own a third of all of them in the country. Here’s an article about the deregulation of the radio industry allowed by the Telecomm Act (and the resulting homogeneity), and the potential for the television industry to go the same way. It’s an interesting, if somewhat disturbing trend, but I figure that they’ll put themselves out of business with all of this inbreeding and in the meantime the rest of us will be researching and creating new opportunities for excellent broadcasting that includes a WIDE spectrum of all the terrific music that I KNOW is out there and doesn’t get played. *grin*
