Delicious Souvenirs!

Our friend Tom went trapsing across Europe recently and brought us back some terrific stuff, making sure they were things we couldn’t get here in the states. Thanks Tom! I’ve immortalized your gifts in another watercolor vignette (after all, everything but the keychain is edible and won’t last forever!):

From left to right: Eiffel Tower keychain (a must-have souvenir, of course), Bouquet garni (seasoning pouches for sauces), Edmond Fallot White Wine Vinegar with Herbs from Provence, a jar of rum-soaked crepes, Apricot & Almond Milk Confiture, Michel Cluizel Noir Infini 99% (now THAT is DARK chocolate – we’ve been warned to let it melt in the mouth but do NOT bite down, or we may die right there), and Lindt 85% Cacao Dark Chocolate (for those times when 99% might be a BIT too much.) Mmmmm… souvenirs!

Sunny Sunny Sunflowers

This was one of those watercolors where, during the painting process, I was afraid that I would somehow ruin it while working on the next phases. I’d also been entertaining this stupid fantasy in my head that we’d have an earthquake and somehow the cup of water would spill all over it. Nice! The weird thing was, we DID have an earthquake – a quick jolt that was only a 2.6, and of course the cup didn’t move at all. Still, I decided that emptying it after every painting session was a good idea anyway – fresh, clean water and all.

So, anyway – sunflowers! Er – bright, eh? I’m thinking about getting this image on cards or a journal for myself, maybe even a t-shirt (*gasp*). And maybe eventually I’ll frame the original too. Oh, yes, and this painting is also available in three sizes of unframed prints.

Poor Old Pear

Just a little visual vignette – a quick watercolor of a terrible tragedy that befell us today. Sure the pear was extremely mushy and WAY past its prime anyway, but then it fell off the table and onto the floor – SPLUT. Didn’t roll out of the door or into the garden or anywhere at all, unlike the fabled ‘poor meatball’.

Hot and Cool Running Celtic Dragonflies

A friend of mine challenged me to do a dragonfly design, Celtic style. It turned out to be a lot of fun pushing myself in a direction I might never have examined otherwise. I did combine a few previous elements – the background is a color-adaptation of a recent abstract watercolor and the border was an older illustration that I thought rounded things out nicely (pun sort of intended – apologies!)

Click each dragonfly to see all the t-shirts and such available with that design. I also have professional quality unframed prints available here. (The watermarked ‘foxvox.org’ is only for these images online, of course.) Thanks for looking!

The Benefits of Print-On-Demand

In our print-on-demand Powered By Tshirts shop, we have a lot of designs that, if we had to decide which ones to do screen-printing runs of 25 t-shirts with, would probably never see the light of day, mostly due to their highly specialized/limited audience. Well, I’m REALLY tickled that someone actually bought one of these designs: “Powered By Condensation Nuclei” – condensation nuclei being the little particles around which clouds form. I just always loved the term ‘condensation nuclei’ ever since I learned it in 9th grade earth science class, and giggled crazily to myself as I was creating the t-shirt design. Hmmm – I wonder if the person who bought the shirt is a meteorologist or someone who lives in Seattle maybe?
