Bobcats!

This morning we discovered that there are TWO bobcats nearby (I wonder if they were BOTH on the roof the other night!)… and that they are adept at catching squirrels for breakfast. I know it’s nature being nature, but it’s still sort of a shock to watch it happen. Anyway, a little while after the first sighting, I looked out the window again and saw one of them drinking from the water bowl we put out for the birds, rabbits, and squirrels! (Yes, we’re trying to hard not to feel like we set the poor squirrels up! But in the years we’ve been doing that, this is really the first predator, beyond the occasional hawk that we’ve seen.) I was able to take a bunch of photos, but since they were taken through the window screen and the angle of the sun was really bad, I’ve had to photoshop them a lot to get anything recognizable. So they’re not amazing photos, rather grainy and weird, but you can see the bobcat at least!

This is the best drinking shot, as it was looking up and you can see the eyes better, and you can see the tufts of furr on the tips of the ears, a little bit:

And this is a shot of the bobcat after it was through drinking. It’s walking away, but it’s a decent shot of the tail itself – I didn’t know they curled a bit at the tip:

And this last one is the bobcat disappearing into the sage on the hillside – they’re bigger than domestic cats, but still only about 30 pounds, best guess. Probably more than I want to run into at night though:

Bobcat on the Roof

Last night as we were laying down to sleep, we heard a lot of commotion that seemed to be outside on the roof. (The kitchen and bathroom extension on our little schoolhouse has a tin roof, so it was loud!) We heard something running back and forth, scratching the tin on occasion, and, by the sounds of it, jumping and scuffling a lot. We thought it might be a raccoon, as we have a number of them around us.

When it didn’t go away after a while, John went outside with his flashlight, and shined it on the roof and saw a good size pair of cat eyes blinking back at him – it was a bobcat! It was probably chasing mice or something up there – hope it had a good meal, after all, it was up there over an hour and a half making a racket – LOL!

Earthquake!

We just had a nice little earthquake nearby! Started off as a large jolt but then tempered off into a few small wave-type movements. Turns out to be a 4.3 about 30 miles northwest of here, centered in Aromas, CA (Quake Info).

When it happened, I sent John an IM on his phone – he said he was in the bank at the time it happened and felt it there too! Then, I couldn’t help myself, I had to IM back, “Did you lose your balance?” HA HA HA!! I crack me up. 😉

Celtic Daggers

My latest Celtic art is a bit more 3-D and realistic than I usually do, but it was quite fun to create all the same! (Hand drawn outlines, digitized outline in inkscape, then colored and 3-D’d in Photoshop.) So here are the Celtic daggers, decorated with etched and leathered knotwork and shiny green emeralds! In my shop, I have two designs available – you can get one stuck right through the front of your shirt or get two crossed over your heart.

Just using the black tees as an example – they’re available on all kinds of tees and gifts (including women’s plus size tees and things like stickers, etc.)

I also have unframed or framed prints available in my imagekind shop (with the added bonus of a decorative shield) – click the framed art below to pop over there – at the very least to play with all the online framing and matting options they have in their online framing engine! LOL.
