People whose spotty voting records suggest they need a ride to the polls or a reminder to vote will receive seemingly prescient offers of help. These are politicians using voting history and gathered marketing information to pinpoint people’s voting strengths and weaknesses and ‘helping’ them. When I first read this, all I could think of was the idea of getting multiple credit card offers in the mail – they’ll do ANYTHING to get you back. Smacks of desperation. ‘Here – let me help you move your hand to check this box to vote for me. Oh, and have a lollipop too.’
