Supermoon!

Tonight is a supermoon! Nasa says, “On March 19th, a full Moon of rare size and beauty will rise in the east at sunset. It’s a super “perigee moon”–the biggest in almost 20 years.Full Moons vary in size because of the oval shape of the Moon’s orbit. It is an ellipse with one side (perigee) about 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other (apogee) Nearby perigee moons are about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than lesser moons that occur on the apogee side of the Moon’s orbit.”

It’s not a great photo by any means, shot through a tangle of trees, but it was looming huge and orange there on the horizon and I had to snap a shot before I got too cold because I ran outside without a jacket on – LOL.

Red Couch! Woo Hoo!

We’ve got a brand new couch! I’m really excited because it’s super comfy, quite stylish with curvy sides, and a lovely RED color fabric. A few years ago I would never have thought of getting a RED couch – I guess the first thing most people think of is some kind of neutral color that you spice up with colorful throw pillows, which makes a lot of sense. Sometimes my creative brain doesn’t make sense though – heh – and in our case, I think it really ‘makes’ the room and is sort of a grounding showpiece. And of course, we already had red curtains, so now the room looks all coordinated. Crazy!

So yeah – RED COUCH! WOO HOO! *grin*

Impossible Trophy Store

An old plaza in nearby Rosendale (NY) has an abandoned, or perhaps retired, trophy shop. Inside, through the dirty windows, you can see a few small dusty trophies in the window case and the usual scraps and trash on the floor. But the most interesting feature is on the front door…

I suppose you can either look on it as simply ironic, considering that the store is closed, and has been for a while. Or, my preference, is that you can find inspiration in the least likely places! 🙂

Treeline – Acrylic Painting

This is an acrylic painting, painted of a layer of gesso layed down to create texture in the final image. Which, of course, you pretty much can’t SEE in this digital image unless you look more closely at a bigger version, but it’s there. Well, okay, maybe you can see a little bit in the sky part….

My inspiration for this painting was a drive along the NY Thruway in November – the autumn trees growing up to the clearing line for the road, the dead leaves on the ground, the leaden, overcast skies. I have the original hanging on the wall in a silver frame right now.

Click on the image to see a larger version, or for framed or unframed prints. Thanks for looking!

Red, Blue, Green, and Ice

I had been meaning to take down the Christmas lights for a while, but I think I missed my chance for now:

To get a print of this frigid ice-ness, or to see a larger version, just click on the image. And to all of you dealing with severe winter weather today (like we are), hang in there! Remember, a wee bit of Bailey’s Irish Cream perks up a hot chocolate nicely!
