Reading the various opinions people present about all this Enron stuff has been fascinating - mostly because either people are really pointing fingers at Bush and company or they are pointing to the fact that all politicians, whether Republican or Democrat do these kinds of wheelings and dealings. What's interesting is that most people's posts on this subject seem too weary to even bother suggesting that there might actually be better ways for government officials to act. Or maybe they feel too weary to change anything that seems so BIG and so OFF all at once? Anyway - I'll take up the slack and say it - "There's certainly a better way. And it's certainly possible. How about a goverment built on integrity and simplicity!" Stop laughing, I'm serious! *grin*

Had a little fun with this photograph, but you'll only notice the difference if you (click on the thumbnail image to) view the larger version.

John's added a humor page to his weblog 'Parabolic Mirror' - wander over to Diabolic Reflector - so new there's only ONE entry so far. *grin*

The oven mitt we'd been using to open the door on our wood burning stove has had a... mishap. John smelled something burning and looked over to see it smoldering while sitting on a plastic box. No fire or flames, just smoldering. Oh, and about an INCH of the end of the mitt was just GONE. So he took it outside and set it on a concrete landing outside and stomped on it a few times. Then *I* went outside and stomped on it too. The smoke faltered and faded. About an hour later, we go out and see that the mitt is almost entirely GONE - only a shell of the part that went around the wrist and arm is left and most of that black, oh, and soot. My question is - Is that what 'flame RETARDANT' is supposed to mean? Is 'BURN retardant' something entirely different? Apparently!

Got a handful of new photos up - I think I like taking my camera with me when I run errands and such. *grin* I regret now that I didn't ask the old woman with the incredibly wrinkled face sitting in the next booth if I could take her picture - it was really a work of art - but I didn't think she'd take it too well - just a vibe I got. Alas - a snapshot only in my mind.

BTW, we were gone for over 24 hours yesterday (don't ask) and when we came back to the house, the indoor/outdoor thermometer said it was 42 outside and 42 INSIDE as well - no house should EVER be that cold. One of the problems with wood burning stove heat - eeek! Wrong wrong wrong - LOL.

CCCCOOOLD today. Grey sky. Even snowed a few small flakes this morning again, but no accumulation. But anyway... not going to change this to the "all weather, all the time" blog, so I'll talk about something else now.

Um... er... SO!... how's things? *grin*

(Click on the small image to see the bigger version.)

So - this is what the snow looked like this morning - this photograph being the only proof that it ever once was now that the sun has touched our little valley between the hills. The photo includes our tire garden, a walnut tree, and the stile over the fence.

Like tom mentioned, it SNOWED here last night. John got up at 5:30 to take the dog out, and yelled back in, "Hey, Kristen! It's SNOWING!", and you just can't stay in bed when THAT happens - LOL. Wow - at least a half inch, and this morning it's still there! Makes the cold weather finally worth while!

I took a batch of photos this morning and now John's out taking another batch - wanted to get some before the sun came out and melted everything. We also have a crack of time just after the sun comes out and before everything melts where we might be able to take bright white sparkly shots. heh heh.

Yes, I know, I'm from Upstate New York and am used to having solid snow for months each year, but I've been in CA too long and have really missed it! It's funny how quickly you can forget the cold when there's snow - otherwise, it's just cold with hard ground - *yawn*.

And when I said in the last post, My new site might be up pretty soon. I meant VERY soon. *grin* Take a look around. Most of the pages are redesigned and the photos/digital pages and art page (links at top right) have new content - I left the 'food' pages alone for now so those are still in the last format. If you're using a new browser, you should see that the background images should NOT move with the text on any of the new pages. If you're using an older browser, things might just look a little more 'usual'. I think I have the comments template and the archives all up to date as well.

Feels good to have it up - feels like a new me! :-)

My new site might be up pretty soon. That basically means a new design here and on all the 'sub' pages. That's also my excuse for not having posted much lately - LOL. I was GOING to make some kind of comment about government and politics, but I can only blink in nonsurprise and then go do something else. *grin*
