Interestingly enough, when the wren got in the house I kept singing that song the Chieftans performed that goes, "Oh, the wren, oh, the wren, is the king of all birds, on St. Stephen's Day he got caught in the firs (?) so it's up with the kettle and it's down with the pan, won't you give us a penny to bury the wren." Since it's on a Christmas CD, I assumed it was around the same time, and sure enough, St. Stephen's Day is December 26th, and it's also called Wren Day. Just FYI.

John and I saw the Fellowship of the Ring yesterday with tom (and Becky and Dan too). I was overwhelmed - just imagine what its like having your imagination come to life before your very eyes and in such a grand, majestic manner. People may enjoy quibbling over details here and there, but to me, the movie had the exact right FEEL to it throughout, and I can't wait to immerse myself in it again - all 2 hours and 50 minutes. The acting was fantastic, the scenes were breathtaking, and the screenplay changes from the book were EXTREMELY well done and seamless as far as I'm concerned. That's all I'll say right now as I'm still digesting it and will surely have to see it a few more times to open my brain large enough to 'get' it all, so to speak. In the meantime, Tom's got some fun thoughts about magic and myth in relation to the movie here. (Oh, and I will NOT compare it to Harry Potter - they are both excellently cool movies for their very own reasons.)

LOL - Oh, the irony! Just after I hit 'post & publish' on my previous post, we got the wren to fly out the kitchen window... but not before getting a quick zoomed photo of him perched on a little decorative sun candle holder that's on top of the fridge. Heh heh. Seemed pretty happy - chirping as he flew away. I can imagine it saying, "Hey guys! I'm back! Guess what happened to ME yesterday!"

A winter wren swooped into our house last night and didn't seem to want to leave. So it stayed the night in the kitchen, being a very good and quiet house guest. It was also a good alarm this morning. It doesn't seem to want to leave quite yet either and our house isn't really good for isolating a flying creature for capture or redirection as it's mostly open space. After playing the winter wren song wave file we downloaded from the above link, however, it did start chirping away again and entertaining us. *grin* I'll say this - it's much better than having a BAT in the house in terms of not being so freaky, but at least the bat WANTED to find its way out. LOL.

I'm pretending that the thick mist surrounding the hills this morning is actually snow. And I've got Johnny Mathis' version of the lyrics, "Carrolling carrolling through the snow, Christmas bells are ring-ing..." going through my head. So far, so good - LOL.
