Time Travel Spam and the fun you can have with a response. *grin*

Yesterday I made a simple pair of knit pants for myself. Nothing major, nothing fancy. But the fabric is really soft, it's a dark rich BLACK, they are exactly long enough for me (being 5'8"), and they are cut with exactly me in mind. I'm deliriously happy! *grin* They easily outstrip any pants I've BOUGHT over the last few years in quality, which still boggles my mind. And the best part? I got the fabric on sale for a dollar a yard. Heh heh.

The day before that I made a simply tunic top out of black panne velvet that came out excellently as well - I'm getting the hang of how to sew on stretchy fabric for the best results. Still in the works is a more 'dressy' shirt made out of this crepe-like striped black flowy fabric, combined with black velveteen - not sure how to finish off the bottom - just cutting it off straight across seems too severe somehow. And yes, those fabrics were quite the sale fabrics too. (At this point that's half the fun!) I don't have any idea where I'd wear the dressier shirt yet, but I'll be ready when I do - LOL.

BTW, can you tell that I've had black thread in the sewing machine for a bit? LOL. Anyway - making my own clothes has been really illuminating. I mean - I look at the stuff advertised in the Gap and Old Navy Commercials (what's up with those ridiculous hats they're trying to push for Christmas - what the hell?) and, well, let's just say I like MY clothes a lot better. Which is probably a good thing, eh? ;-)

There's something really satisfying about sawing branches (1-2 inch diameter) into fireplace sized chunks. These particular branches are pine, so the sawing is quick, and when you're done, you've got a nice, catalog-photogenic stack of wood - like something out of the Plow & Hearth Catalog. And it's somehow neat to know that this simple activity is as interesting to me as deep philosophical discussions can be, yet so different.

If you want to 'direct' something a certain way in your life you have to 'encompass' it. That's what the phrase "being on top of things" means to me. You're aren't encompassing something if you're fighting or battling with it. It's a state of mind, not necessarily any 'action' you take. You don't already have to know anything about HOW to direct something, you just allow yourself to become/encompass what you want and then the knowing will be there.

When I first started playing with watercolor painting many years ago, I put three small, quick abstract paintings in my office to brighten things up. They were my first tries at using watercolors. When someone came by and asked me if I would do commissioned 'realistic' paintings, I said yes. At the time I had no idea how to do realistic watercolors, but I had confidence that I could figure it out as I went. Of course, I never told the purchaser that I'd never done them before or didn't yet know how. It was a little scary, but it paid off, literally too - LOL. In those moments I BECAME a realistic watercolor painter - I suppose this is also what I take as the meaning of 'fake it til you make it.'

My thinking at the moment is that if you want to get on top of something that you've struggled with, let it go and encompass it. Become the person that DOES 'control' or 'direct' this part of your life, instead of being the person that struggles with it. Like the mindset of being an owner/manager rather than an employee (not that either is better or worse, mind you). It's a new identify. Life isn't what you make it, it's who YOU are. [Opinion on what life is or isn't subject to change.]

Once again, tom has said it all. So, if you want to know what we were doing yesterday, and what it had to do with medieval seige engines, click that link. *grin* (I always want to type SEARCH engine instead of SEIGE - LOL.)

Today's word of the day is "anthropomorphizing". Until you're clear about yourself, you won't be any clearer about animals, insects, or inanimate objects. That's all I have to say about that.

To anyone who's interested - I do NOT need any more spam telling me that Jesus is the only Christ or that Allah is the Devil - got plenty already and my delete key is getting worn out. Go find something else to do - fly a kite, bake a cake, fingerpaint. Now. And take your polarized view of the world with you. And to anyone who finds this entry by searching for "Jesus", "Christ", "Allah", or "Devil"... this isn't what you were looking for. Trust me. (No, I'm not annoyed, why do you ask?)

Clarity and open space can sometimes get misinterpreted as there being something missing or as there being something you should do but have forgotten. But they are just what they are, and are to be observed and enjoyed. Drama for the sake of drama is like filling your stomach with air - it's uncomfortable, 'empty' yet feels full, and in the end, it really stinks. *grin*

Is it wrong to use postage stamps from the "Carnivorous Plants" series when you're sending out cards for the Holidays? Or is it just funny? *grin*

Thanks for sharing this story in such a well-written and colorful way! Now *I* don't have to - LOL.
