What's the symbolic, metaphysical meaning of a woodpecker pecking away at the side of your house anyway? Opportunity? (Well, at least the dog's stopped barking every time, although I have to concede that it DOES sound like someone's knocking on the door.) *grin* Ahhh, DA BOOK says that when a woodpecker shows up it's about stimulating 'new rhythm' in your life. Cool - that fits! (Hey - I didn't go there, why did you? ;-) )

Yesterday afternoon when we got home I had this urge to whip up a shirt out of this purple fabric I had... and I did. Only took me about an hour and a half. Sure, it's a simple, straightforward SHIRT shirt, nothing fancy, but I was tickled. There's something very satisfying about creating your own clothes. It's like being able to further define yourself as being uniquely YOU. Although the shirt is rather basic, it's not something I've found in stores AND the fabric was very inexpensive - cost about $4 in materials to make. I also realized the other day that the t-shirt and general kinds of Target/WalMart/KMart clothing sell the modern day qualititative equivalent of 'peasant garb'. I mean, some things haven't changed - the more decoration or higher quality fabrics and skills required, the more money required. Isn't that deep? ;-)

I obviously don't know exactly what's up with this entry tom, but there's some WEIRD ASS energy everywhere - tons of it. Perhaps it's the sun sending all that energy our way in the form of solar flares. But damn - I need a VACATION. Who wants to join me? ;-)
On a weird/funny note, a nun tried to give me a kid's book all about St. Vincent today (at the Catholic Hospital where John works) to celebrate the Saint's Feast day. They also gave out free bowls of French Onion Soup (which John made and which was very tasty) - but the book didn't go into any detail about why French Onion Soup was used to celebrate the day - I was rather disappointed. *grin* (I "accidentally" left the book in the cafeteria.)

I finished sewing up another 'tunic' type shirt for John. It's blue with raglan sleeves and has a decorative trim around the sleeves and in a line from the front of the neck halfway down the front. That last part was John's idea - I kept trying to do this or that with the trim on the neckline but it just never felt 'right' - then John offered that idea. His rationale for HAVING an idea about clothing design was that he read a lot of superhero comics when he was younger and if there's one thing he knows SOMETHING about with clothing/sewing it's costume design - LOL. Tres macho! *grin* Still, we haven't decided if the shirt looks like something from the 70's, something ecclesiastical, or something peasant-ish - maybe it's a combination of all three. The funny part is that the fabric for the shirt was on sale and cost about three bucks but the trim was twice as much! ;-)

Got my Scottish Lion catalog the other day. It's amazing (and bemusing) what is being done with HAGGIS these days. *grin*

Ooooh - thunder AND lightning - now! (And we'd been thinking those rumblings were really loud pickup trucks driving down the back road. LOL.) Smells like rain too - please please please please please! *grin*

As I was rummaging through my photo files, I realized that I'd never posted this shot of the evening sky I took a few weeks ago. (Today is apparently photo day - LOL) I can honestly say I feel like Professor Frink when I say, "Oh, the colors, children!" *grin*

What you are looking at here.... is text. ;-) If you'll look to the left however, you'll see a photo of four little boar piglets that were munching acorns under our live oak trees this morning! I got as close as I could to take the photo - tried to get closer but they heard and saw me (was trying to be in stealth mode but a covering of dry leaves on the ground didn't help - LOL) and then they squealed in alarm and jogged away in a very piggy way. Before they ran, however, they were very happy eating and snuffling away, their little tails waving all around. One was charcoal black, two were reddish-orange and mottled, and the other one was almost a solid reddish-orange.
