Watching a "morph" is impossible in the usual way. The eyes always want to land on something, and when something's morphing to something else, there's nothing for the eyes to anchor to for more than a split second. You have to "open" your vision and focus on the flow of energy instead of the usual hard images. For instance, in the movie Willow when the old sorceress morphed through all of those shapes until she finally became human again - all the images are "inbetween". In thinking about this idea, I was thinking about the idea of instant manifestations. Most of the time when we call something an instant manifestation it wasn't there, and in the next moment it was - we don't usually notice the "inbetween" or the energy of something coming into form. Is it because we've not trained ourselves to look for this energy, which seems to be the same "morphing" energy, at least in concept? What kind of new experiences would this kind of visual/conceptual perspective shift allow? Do we not see magic because it too requires a shift in the way we usually look at things? That last question is both literal and metaphorical. *grin*
Some years back, I wrote a poem called "off and running". For a while now I had been thinking about making it into a "moving poem" (aka flash animation), and this morning the time seemed ripe - I just sat down and did it. (Things tend to be like that for me - nothing... nothing... nothing... and then suddenly I'm putting everything together and POOF.) Click here to see the flash - it's about a 200KB download.
Today my goal is that when I'm not busy doing something, I'll NOT fill my head with thoughts just because I'm used to it. Going to leave the moments open and just see what happens. Maybe some cool new thoughts will make their debut. This has been a public service announcement. *grin*
I wasn't aware that General Motors was working on HEV SUVs, that is, SUVs that are also hybrid electric vehicles (gas and electricity), like the Honda Insight and the Toyota Prius. Incidentally, did you know that the Toyota Prius gets better mileage around town than it does on highways because it uses the car's braking action to recharge its batteries? Very clever.
Just a few seconds ago, as I was sitting at the computer, I heard some loud, frantic bird cries. Glancing up, I saw a large shadow swoop down across the window, and, with the frantic cries quickly fading, I watched a handful of small feathers fall in random paths past the window. Methinks the local kestrel is having finch for lunch.
I bought a little Kalanchoe plant yesterday (like the picture in the link, but smaller) and transplanted it into a real pot this morning. I just love the electric reddish color of the flowers - BRIGHTNESS! LOL. Over the last week, I've been playing a lot with the plants in our house - rearranging them, repotting, etc. Today, I've got to plant some sprigs of various philodendron plants that I've been rooting in water for way too long. There's just nothing like a house full of greenery and flower-ery. *grin*
Okay - found ANOTHER dead bat this morning, on the ground in almost the exact same spot as the one yesterday - John spotted this one. I guess we each get one? ;-/
Remember the two bat in the house incidences? Well, Ted Andrews in "Animal Speak" says that bats are about initiation, a new beginning that brings promise and power after the changes. Well, I got another 'symbol' today that tells me that the 'bat' part is over... when I took the dogs out a few moments ago, Pepper was sniffing something in the driveway area. It was a DEAD BAT. So small it was. I put the dogs back inside and relocated the bat, via shovel, to the other side of the fence. Wow. Guess the "initiation" period is over!
The problem with articles like this is the same problem most articles about kids have. They talk all about what dangers lurk but never even touch on the idea that kids aren't encouraged to think for themselves. It's usually just ASSUMED that kids are some kind of blank slate for all the craziness out there and that they can be sucked in easily because they have no will of their own. Sure, kids are curious. They should be! But if you encourage and support them with making decisions from the core of their OWN integrity (not just following a set of moral codes or rules set down by "authorities") they'd be much better off. Wailing "Won't someone please think of the children!" sets up children as victims, and that's the LAST thing kids ought to BELIEVE about themselves! Bleh.
I love the fact that there are now "professional skateboarders" - if that's not proof of being able to create doing what you love AND having money, then NOTHING is. *grin*
Every man ought to be inquisitive through every hour of his great adventure down to the day when he shall no longer cast a shadow in the sun. For if he dies without a question in his heart, what excuse is there for his continunace. -- Frank Moore Colby (1865-1925) -- American editor, essayist
A few days ago when I was watering the front garden, I saw a few flowers! We had spread a bunch of wildflower seeds many many weeks ago and had just been seeing small, strange green plants popping up everywhere, and had been hoping that they weren't just local weeds - LOL. And then all of a sudden, there they were, a number of small, periwinkle blue flowers and some teensy pale lavender ones as well. Hey - this "growing" thing really DOES work! *grin*
We also have a garden where we planted marigold seeds and two indoor pots with one marigold plant each. It's interesting to see how differently they develop. The ones outside are thicker with leaves, while the inside ones have gotten really tall, and we have to keep rotating the pots so they don't continually lean towards the window. I think we needed to plant the indoors ones a little deeper in the soil too, but that's just a guess right now. I shall continue my observations and will let you know which ones bloom first. (We planted the inside ones about five days before the outside ones. The outside ones took longer to come up (not just five days later) but seem hardier?)
Been playing a bit over at Domain Surfer - just to see what comes up. *grin* Go ahead and type in your name, for instance, and see how many porno sites show in the search results. And then see how many sites that SOUND like a porno site get redirected to a "jesus" site. Then slap yourself in the head for wasting all this time online doing stupid things. LOL.
Found an interesting new blog today, The Making of a Restaurant, just what the title says it is. There are also some fun polls in the right column. John and I have talked about how cool it would be to open our own restaurant, perhaps we've found some probable selves here to help us read up on it! *grin*
Yesterday I decided that I was just going to be happy, period. That my moods were NOT going to be dictated by external factors, particularly what seemed or seemed NOT to be happening. It was a good decision. ;-)
Occasionally when we're driving into town we have to pull over to the road side and let the neighbors finish herding their cattle to another pasture down the road. It cracks John up when he gets to say, "Sorry, I was a few minutes late," to his boss, "there was a cattle drive." (Hell, I didn't even know cows could GET licenses. *groan*)
