You know that television commercial for Simmons mattresses that show them dropping a bowling ball on the bed to show how wonderfully the independent coil (motion separation) system works? Well - that's our new bed, and from the jumping tests we did in the showroom (luckily there was no one else around to tell us to act our age - even the salesman was on crutches and in the back room instead - LOL) it's TRUE! There IS a difference! heh heh. YES!

I just changed the archives for this blog (bottom of left column) from that little javascript drop down menu to an archive index page that Blogger automatically updates. The scrolling drop down menu was cute, but I had to update it manually, and I wasn't always as timely as I would have liked. So there you go.

Did you know... that a group of foxes is called a skulk? (Egad - so many 'family reunion' jokes come to mind, I can't even THINK!) *grin*

Cool Shockwave game - you can assemble your own racetrack and then race! Like those old slotted car thingies we had as kids. I actually had one that was SNOWMOBILES racing on a white track - there was even a squiggly part where it was supposed to be "icey". Ahhh, good times. *grin*

Hey tom - glad your grandmother is doing well, and that you're enjoying the weather on the east coast! :-) Back in CA, it's been rather cool and semi-overcast here a LOT this spring, which has been REALLY nice. BTW, it seems like you've been gone forever - has it been more than 6 weeks yet? LOL. John's onions are sprouting all over the place and he got a weedwacker, which is really good for taking out prickly thistle bushes around here, although we're leaving some around the edges of the other pasture so we can enjoy the height they grow to, and the amazing purple original star-trek-ish flowers.

RIAA and Webcasters bid for royalty rates - naturally the RIAA has filed for a much higher rate to be paid to them. The record companies are NOT paid for on-air playing (the fees go to the writers unions) of music, but they want dibs on internet streaming. The fact is, if they charge the higher fee, then only the larger companies will be able to pay it and the RIAA will then STILL have control over what music gets played - IMO that's what this is all about. Otherwise, the RIAA then won't know who to pay to put the music THEY ARE PUSHING on the air - virtually everyone will be able to afford to stream audio, and we can't have THAT! People will start realizing there's more to music than just what's currently on the radio and THEN what kind of anarchy will we have? *grin*

Just a clip from a news article... Tantalum was discarded as a byproduct of tin smelting decades ago but the electronics boom has boosted its value... Tantalum fever has gripped Butterworth in northern Penang where poor diggers work day and night to unearth the metallic element used to make components for mobile phones, computers and other electronic devices. The story is actually about a tunnel collapsing under a car showroom where a tin smelting plant used to be (killing three people), but I thought it was an excellent example of how something we toss away in one process later on becomes useful in another - just took a little time to figure that out.

Not surprisingly, Themestream is closing its doors. What surprised me is that I just got a notice today (having been unable to delete myself from their email listings some time ago) that they are closing on April 13th - not much notice! They also said it would be highly unlikely that they would be able to pay any of their contributors. Well, John and I pulled out of Themestream when they decided to focus more on "consumers" and what they thought interested "consumers" and associated links to other merchants. I'm not unhappy to see them go - when they started they had vision, then they lost it along the way. Sigh.

Hey tom, what about setting up a webmail account and getting your pop mail from there? I know you have already thought of that, but it might be easier than trying to set up pop mail when you're moving around so much. :-) "Yeah, but webmail is so annoying..." True... LOL - see - you don't even have to be involved here - I'll just have a conversation with myself. "No you won't." Oh yes I... *grin*

Just a small rant about the idea that we should be egoless and unified and one without a trace of individuation - POPPYCOCK! If that was the ideal, we wouldn't all be in separate bodies to begin with! In my opinion, the ideal is to integrate the ego, or individual perspective, with the idea of connectiveness and an expanded perspective, while retaining the integrity of BOTH. Being grounded with expanded consciousness. Yeah. It's very spiritual to be spiritual, but people with egos have more fun. (LOL - should make that into a bumpersticker.) Your inner being doesn't give one whit whether you have toast or a muffin for breakfast, but your ego sure has a preference - that's part of the fun of life in physical reality!
