The image to the left is a section of the mural painted in the foyer of my friend Patsy's house, that I visited while I was in Seattle. (all rights reserved, etc. - painted by her neighbor and friend Terry, dang if I can remember his last name!) The whole thing is really beautiful and has a lot of metaphysical meanings tied into each part. I couldn't really get a good photo of each wall, so I just took shots of a few parts - this piece came out the best. In the back, people are naked and as they come into the shot, they are clothed - it's supposed to represent (if I can remember this correctly) the technological and idea revolution, consciousness and freedom... The interesting thing is that you don't expect this kind of mural in the walls of a 'normalish' house in the suburbs of Kent, WA - it's like finding a creamy center in a cupcake you thought was just solid cake. *grin*

Wow. It's April, and yesterday it was showering and today it's actually RAINING quite nicely! See, for those of you NOT accustomed to Central California weather, this is a real treat! It sounds so nice when it hits the roof. This morning, I was laying in bed half awake, and when the rain came down harder, I suddenly had this image in my head of a daisy bush growing huge with tons of daisies blossoming all over it. :-)

Adults in Britain now have the chance to take a class in witchcraft. The class description is "an introduction to modern Wicca with an emphasis on personal development and the practical uses of witchcraft in the 21st century." Instructor Kevin Saunders, a former chief press officer for the Green Party, is a Wiccan High Priest. The class will focus on personal development. "We won't be doing a great deal of magic spells because, whilst the general public watches on television so-called witches waving wands around and transforming things with a flash of fairy powder, that is not what it's about." Saunders says that although witches do not have the typical "dualistic" Christian sense of good and evil, they do not intend to allow anyone who wants to use natural energies to harm others to take the course. "We point out that one of the rules within Wicca is the three-fold law, which means anything you give out comes back to you three times. You'll find it will hurt you a damn sight more than the person you are aiming at, therefore it isn't a good idea."

On the one hand, I think this is really cool. On the other hand, I hope it doesn't focus on being TOO "practical" and end up as a wishy-washy new age version of things - just another angle for the same ideas found in the self-improvement isle of Barnes & Noble. You can hover a long time on the threshold of power - wanting to use it to create what you want and being afraid that it will hurt others. The ironic part is that in order to get to 'true power' you have to pass that threshold where you don't doubt yourself and you KNOW that you are aligned with what I'll call source energy, and in that state, hurting others is really impossible - it's a built in safety system. The big "U" thinks of everything.

Geeky sciency thing du jour: Metamaterials and a negative index of refraction that defies the laws of physics - sounds intriguing, doesn't it! :-)

Celebrate the 71st Birthday of the TWINKIE (the first one ever made is probably still around somewhere in its original packaging, if the packaging hasn't disintegrated, leaving only the Twinkie - LOL) - visit the Twinkies Project - makes ya proud to be an American, it does. *grin*

Just ran across a site called Tang Monkey - seems like a clever and fun and strange ... site. I seem to feel strangely drawn to it - maybe its the use of 'tang' in the title or the orange page, or the pixelated monkey. Maybe it's just because the people behind the monkey seem to be having a really good time with it. Not with the monkey, with the site. Where ARE your minds, people!?! *grin*

Amusing story of the day: A Wisconsin taxidermist says he's making a killing selling stuffed wild animals as decoys to fool poachers. US and Canadian conservation wardens are using Brian Wolslegel's decoys to dupe illegal wildlife hunters. They are made from real animal hides and some include a robotic motor in the head and tail.... But not everyone realises the animals are fakes, even though they don't run when shot at or fall over when hit. Conservation warden Mark Brann says he's had to tell people to stop shooting at the animated deer. heh heh.

Ahhh yes, Spring must be in the air. The kitchen/bath addition to our house has a less slanted roof than the rest of the house, and the birds are going nuts on it. Boinging all over the place, pecking on the thin tin roof (which gets really loud - LOL), flying out from the eaves, chasing each other around... finches and chickadees and other small birds - chirping away everywhere. "The birds are singing, the bees are trying to have sex with them, as is my understanding..." (Bart Simpson)

This will also be brief - my energy was completely whacked out yesterday, so today I'm still taking it easy. Will probably play with the dogs and continue reading the fourth Harry Potter book: Goblet of Fire. Sounds like a plan.

This will be brief... I'm back in California again. For now, here's a picture of Seattle and the Space Needle that I snapped from a 'viewing area' park in Queen Anne:

Happy April Fool's Day - make sure you read the caption in this photo - if you don't get it, search for the words you don't understand on the internet and you'll quickly learn why this is funny. ;-) (or read a Harry Potter book)

Last night I actually chatted with John on ICQ - LOL - he reminded us to turn our clocks ahead today - which is actually important because today's the day I fly back to California - I like being on time and NOT missing flights. *grin* It's a lovely rainy day here too - thanks for the great send-off, Seattle! Oh yeah, and yesterday we went south to Kent to visit our friend Patsy - we went out for Mexican and told funny metaphysical stories and laughed our butts off. heh heh. I'm having my butt sent home parcel post now as my luggage was already too full to include it in the overhead compartment - yeah - that was REALLY lame. Hey - nobody's FORCING you to laugh here. *evil grin*
