This morning I implemented my first dynamic HTML script! (Borrowed from the internet, of course.) I mocked up a page for my friend Tara's site, and put in DHTML drop down menus. And best of all - it all worked! :-) YAY!

This morning I wanted to get something off my chest. Namely, a Corgi named Maddie. *grin* She'd slept by my legs all night, but this morning when I rolled over onto my back and stretched, she climbed right up on top of me. Corgis aren't TOO big but they're not teacup poodles either. 20 pounds or so maybe? Anyway, then the OTHER Corgi jumped up too, Chester (aren't those perfect names for Corgis?), and then I had to shove them all off so I could breathe. Heh heh.

Anyway - gonna unpack my camera for today - get some shots of various and sundry people and places and things as we go. Will probably post some after I get back to California, so you'll have to wait. :-)

Went out to dinner with Tara and her S.O., and then we stopped by this beach area in Northern Seattle where people are allowed to build large fires in the concrete basins. We walked over to one that was a little low and found some paper trash to toss on top of the embers, and then some small chunks of wood too. In the basin next to us, a group of guys were burning wooden pallets - had a stack of at least 6 left, and they already had a major bonfire burning. Of course, they burned rather fast, but it was an amazingly big fire - very cool. It crackled and tons of sparks flew up out of the ends of the flames like space ships scattering from a dying planet. *grin* I took the whole "speaking of fire..." opportunity to tell Tara and David some of my more amusing "burn barrel" adventure stories - sorta made me feel like a rube, but they were still funny stories. :-)

Tara and I spent a good portion of yesterday working on her web site - downloaded Swish for her to do Flash animations with, put together a temporary splash page, signed up for hosting, etc. Then of course, every so often we took breaks and wandered around the internet, looking at sites with weird and bizarre jello recipes, champion chihuahuas (with music!), and other kinds of strangeness. heh heh.

Oh yeah, and using a cable modem internet connection on a fast computer with a HUGE screen is definitely addictive. I'm getting the VIBE, man!

I'm convinced that the whole 'art gallery opening' thing is just a good excuse for people to go out to various clubs and get together. LOL. When we got to the place last night, I saw some smallish geometric black and white, anglish presentations on the walls, placed above each booth and an open spaces and such, and rather assumed that it was the decor. So both David (Tara's SO) and I asked her at different times (it was loud in there and we couldn't hear well), "So this is an art thing?" And then she pointed to the black and white things, which I then realized were made out of paper like materials and not painted on the walls. That was the art show part. It's not that the black and white designs weren't interesting in a geometric kinda way, it's rather that I had been expecting more of a 'walk around and look at paintings' kinda 'art gallery opening' and this was more of a small scale, "social" thing. Oh, it appears I have much to learn about 'the scene', should I wish to take the time for it. LOL.

Okay - maybe I WON'T go into excruciating detail about the Italian food, except to say that they had MANICOTTI on the menu, that it was really tasty and creamy, and that the garlic bread was delicious, and that we were talking so much that they were vacuuming and flicking the lights on and off to get us to leave so they could close down for the night. LOL. I also got to share my guest bed here with a corgi last night - luckily only one at a time - they make good foot and leg warmers. (flashback to the 80's - legwarmers - DOH!) Tonight we may be going to an art gallery opening - I feel so urbane!

Hi! I'm in Seattle and it's rainy and cold and WONDERFUL!!!! I'm showing Tara all about Blogger and how addicted I am to it - LOL. That's all for now... tell you all about the delicious Italian food, and probably in excruciating detail, later. heh heh.

Well - I'm off to Seattle for a few days - I'm intending to blog 'from the road', so we'll see how that goes. *grin* Taking my camera too - will probably come back with a zillion pictures of my friend's corgies (corgis? sp? anyway, her dogs) or something. heh heh.

Wow, tom - that's way too deep for me today! *grin* Actually, I rather agree. And it IS a game - with really, really silly rules. I'd rather make up my own.

In other news, I believe I'm going to be taking a spontaneous trip to visit my friend Tara within the next few days, in Seattle! She called last night (personal reasons - not necessary to blog about) and today we're looking into booking flights - funny how FAST these things happen. (And I thought tom was going to be the only one traveling - LOL.) One of the strange things is, 3-4 weeks ago when I was thinking about our desire to move to Oregon, I kept thinking about how cool it would be to ALSO go visit Seattle again... interesting!

Also got this in my inbox today as quote of the day - seems quite relevant, of course.

To attract good fortune, spend a new coin on an old friend, share an old pleasure with a new friend, and lift up the heart of a true friend by writing his name on the wings of a dragon. (Chinese Proverb)

What *I* want to see is a movie or television company EMBRACE and ENCOURAGE those who would make fan sites on the internet, instead of try to shut them down, like Warner Brothers is trying to do to Harry Potter Fan Sites. Bunch of ignorant muggles - don't they know when to work WITH rather than AGAINST? WB says "the company wants "to be responsible to all true Harry Potter fans" by ensuring fans aren't exposed to any inaccurate or harmful content."" How about they just let Harry Potter fans take responsibility for themselves, instead of using that as an excuse or cover story for their real agenda, that fan sites were "likely to cause consumer confusion or dilution of intellectual property rights." No one is SELLING anything, they're just FANS - let them GO. The rest of the world knows what a FAN SITE is - PLEASE! Ugh. So I go back to my original vision - a company that will EMBRACE and ENCOURAGE fan sites instead. Yes - much better.
