I've prowled through a lot of weblogs in the last few days, mostly just soaking up the web design. There are a lot of really cool designs that you might say would fall into the 'hip' category. The funny thing is that, with good web design, the hip and the geekly tend to blend - a hip design requires geekly skills. What's also interesting to me is that no matter what I design, although I often love the way they come out, they never seem to be what I'd consider 'hip'. They're probably not even that geekly, considering that I keep the html rather simple.
Ever feel like you're living BETWEEN worlds?
Hmmm... maybe I belong to the category of those who take a little from each category, as they like it. Oooh - that's it! I'm in the "miscellaneous" crowd! Think I'll go make up some t-shirts - LOL.
If you've had enough of Bejeweled for a while, try Marbles - guaranteed to waste many hours of your life, and both involve shiny colored things! *grin*
I finished the acrylic painting of our little schoolhouse the other day - it looks rather good. All I have to do is put some varnish on it (acrylics look rather 'flat' without varnish). Rendering still images from photos is rather easy for me - it's just drawing what you see, and then filling in the lines with the appropriate color. I'll never forget that day a long time ago when I realized that sun shadows are actually PURPLE, not grey or black - we have a yellow sun and the opposite color of yellow is purple, a mix of blue and red (primary colors). Blew my little mind - LOL.
And I can't help but think that there's something symbolic about 'finishing the schoolhouse' - about our 'work' here being finished as well. It's a nice idea to have when you really WANT to move too. But anyway - I'll post an image of the painting when I get a chance.
Ever have one of those days where you realize that you are no longer feeling 'blocked' from moving forward? Suddenly, it's like opportunities start opening up right in front of you - things you've been talking about doing start getting REAL. You can call it "exciting" but the word falls short - it's almost like the energy of the incoming moments are running along your nerve endings and focusing you totally in the NOW. Anyway, it's rather cool to say the least. It will be nice to soon be able to blog about what I'm doing instead of what I'm wanting to do - heh heh.
Useless factoid: I sent about 3700 emails last year! (I just noticed that my 'sent' folder hasn't been emptied since February 2000, and there are over 3700 emails in there now.) Granted, many of them are list admin stuff, and some are repeats when the first ones didn't send, but many of them are just plain ol' emails. I was going to delete at least half of the folder (for space considerations) but maybe I'll do a quick run through and see what I've been doing this last year - or at least, what I've been TELLING people I've been doing - LOL!
So, is the distinction you're alluding to like this: "NAPSTER.COM" as the site, and "NAPSTER" itself as the program? I can agree that the way most news services talk about it sounds like you go to the napster web page and download things directly from there. I heard some of the most ridiculous leading/ignorant questions on the radio about this yesterday - like, "So, Napster's purpose is the downloading of copyrighted material" - luckily the guy they were interviewing had more discernment, "Napster's purpose is to encourage file sharing, and SOME use that to share copyrighted material." Personally, I think the whole thing is stupid - most people I know WANT to OWN the CDs and Napster should have been USED by the record companies for free press at the very least. It's like trying to hold back a wave instead of learning to surf along with it and get what you want out of the experience. Can't put the genie back into the bottle, and you can't stop creation - it's the nature of life.
MSG (monosodiumglutimate) is pure evil. Yesterday we went out to lunch, and although we didn't catch on at the time, I'm sure they put it on the fries. They tasted much more 'salty'ish than usual. And by the end of the meal, I felt overly stuffed (the amount of food I ate wouldn't account for that) and felt like I wanted to guzzle down gallons of water. My lips even started to feel dry and chapped! When we got home, both John and I drank water like fishes, and figured out what had happened. Ugh! What happened to cooking food so that it tasted good on its own - I don't remember the restaurant saying that their fries were 'seasoned' either.
John noticed that the cooks at work who smoke tend to overseason (all relative, yes, I know) the food, and I know that when my mom smoked, she could eat blistering hot chicken wings without blinking. Is there a pattern here? Maybe. But you can BET I'm going to tell them to hold the MSG next time, although I don't want to be one of those restaurant patrons that goes around asking, "Does your food have MSG in it?" all the time. Or maybe I'll have a little fun with it. I'll tell them that if I eat MSG I'll explode like a blow fish and DIE - heh heh. (I know - some people have very serious reactions to MSG - mine was 'mild' in comparison.) Anyway - I'm feeling a little more 'normal' now - am never creating THAT again - that just sucked!
Let's see... we couldn't actually get our email or internet access until 10 o'clock... our ISP OPENS at 10.... why do I think they were just walking around with their morning coffee and noticed that something wasn't plugged in.... LOL. "Hey - did you unplug the T1 line?" "No - I thought you did that." *rolling eyes*
Frustration happens when you aren't letting your energy get expressed. Rage is chronic frustration. When you don't let your energy out, you are functionally powerless. Power is the other side of rage. Stop letting yourself indulge in your frustration or rage if you're sick of it - there's much better stuff on the other side.
It rained all last night, and this morning, John checked on the status of the dam he and tom had built - it was filled to the rim - even leaking out a side 'channel' a little, but holding. But now it's raining again, and I'm not sure what's going to happen to it.
